Mihály Varga: investments must be supported in order to protect the economy

July 17, 2020

The government's economic protection program has so far preserved 1.2 million jobs, and 225,000 jobs received wage subsidies, the finance minister said.

The government's position remains unchanged, in order to protect the economy, investments must be supported, because they create jobs, and today jobs are the most important, said Mihály Varga at the handover ceremony of PreBeton Zrt.'s new plant in Erdőtelek on Friday.

The Minister of Finance also spoke about the fact that the framework of the investment support program for large companies has been increased to HUF 40 billion. "The government's economic protection program has so far preserved 1.2 million jobs, 225,000 jobs have received wage subsidies," declared the finance minister. For PreBeton Zrt.'s job-creating investment of HUF 5.3 billion, the government provided more than HUF 2.5 billion in support, he said. He emphasized that further support for construction industry investments will be needed in the future as well.

Hungary took protective measures in time to meet the challenges of the emergency situation, the head of the ministry emphasized, adding that the government can now focus on preserving jobs and supporting investments.

Regarding the Economic Protection Action Plan, Mihály Varga said that the government will not stop supporting Hungarian companies, this is necessary to restart the economy.

The minister stated in connection with the debate surrounding the EU loan package: Hungary does not need a loan, but it would be unfair if it were regrouped from the poorer countries. It is necessary that the framework be distributed fairly and without politics, and that the funds can be used exclusively for restarting the economy - emphasized the head of the ministry.

Zsolt Szabó, the region's parliamentary representative, said: the concrete block production plant not only brings job creation and economic upswing to the region, it also initiates development in social and cultural life. Forest plots are expected to catch up and recover from the investment.

Sándor Scheer, CEO of Market Zrt., talked about, among other things, that the 185 billion turnover and the company's results last year made the investment possible. "The plant is producing, it has enough work," he declared. Now they have 50 employees, and they can increase the number of employees to a hundred, he added.

According to Mrs. János Forgács, mayor of Erdőtelek, the investment fulfills three goals: it contributes to the realization of their campaign promise regarding job creation; incoming companies can increase local government revenues; promotes the implementation of the government's program aimed at protecting families and people.
